First Post of the New Year

Happy 2010! Hopefully you had some wonderfully things to reminisce about and you celebrated safely.
I lost the winning bid for "mother of the year, 2009" when I refused to let the boys stay up until midnight. Heavy sigh. As it was, they were out by 11:00 and didn't stir when the house was shaking from crazy-neighbors lighting off the illegal fireworks. Luckily, those fireworks are fairly expensive and the entire neighborhood quieted by 12:15.

One of the best presents I received this year was a photo light-cube from Mr. Dude. It allows me to take much better light diffused photos of my creations and I am ever so pleased with the quality.
And in addition to his thoughtfulness, he is undeniably awesome because he took the boys out today and I was able to create this lovely card. It will be the main card for my first class in January- 3-D Cards. Here are the two cropped photos and the one in-process, so you can see how it looks in the photo cube.
Hope you're enjoying time with friends and family.

Enjoy the weekend and please leave a comment!

Birthday Tri-fold

Today I am posting a birthday card I have made my friend in her favorite Hawaiian colors. I think it turned out better than expected and it looks quite grand. I hope she likes it! Unfortunately the birthday present I had planned on making her was a bit problematic and while it worked out in the end, it didn't turn out the way I had envisioned and so I am a little disheartened. Don'tcha just hate when those plans just don't work out the way you, uh..planned? I sure do. It must be my inner-control freak fighting the good fight. So I'll decide later if I'm posting the picture of her gift. We'll see how well that last glimmer of pride holds on. ;)
Let me know if you like the card!

Tri-fold Shutter Card

I made this style of card for my nephew a few weeks ago, and used Sesame Street stickers to decorate the entire card. As I made it, I realized that the layout was really better suited to a girlie-girl card! I wanted to get back to this and re-create it for a friend of mine who has a birthday in a few weeks. So here is my practice card. What do you think? I really like the papers and colors, the colors are more suited to my personality but my friend will get papers that are more her style. I won't say more...she may be reading!
Here is a link for a tutorial that you can find all over the crafty-net, just by searching "tri-fold shutter card" I didn't use this one, but I looked at it and it is very similar to the directions I found at split-coast stampers.http://craftiblog.wordpress.com/2009/04/23/2009-04-23-quad-fold-card-sample-tutorial/
Plus the author made a video for those that like to see the entire process in action.
I'm posting 3 pictures so you can see all the different folds it has and the areas to decorate. Although it looks complicated, the card base is actually quite easy to make. It's the decorating that is hard!

Please leave a comment...I love 'em!
